CV Writing & Optimisation

Build one strong CV — then tailor it for every role.

Stop rewriting your CV from scratch for each application. Record your career once, and CareerPathIQ selects, orders and sharpens the wording for whichever role or advert you are targeting — without changing a single fact.

How it works

  1. 1Your career record
  2. 2Choose the target
  3. 3Tailored CV

The AI improves the language — never the facts.

The distinction that matters

Your CV isn't your career.

Most CV tools treat the document as the source of truth. CareerPathIQ treats it as an output — which is why optimisation here never means rewriting your past.

Your Career Record

The source — complete and independent of any one document

  • Every role, with dates, responsibilities and achievements
  • Skills, qualifications, memberships and credentials
  • Target roles you're measuring yourself against
  • Original wording, always preserved

Your CV

An output — selected for one purpose

  • The evidence relevant to this target, ordered to lead
  • Bullets capped per role by your chosen layout
  • Confirmed wording — yours, or a polish you approved
  • Rebuilt whenever the record or the target changes

IllustrativeImproving a line on the CV never rewrites the record underneath. Your original wording stays stored; a confirmed polish sits alongside it — labelled.

The mechanism

How a career record becomes a CV.

  1. 01

    Career Record

Roles, achievements, responsibilities, skills, qualifications, memberships and credentials you have recorded.

  2. 02

    Target role or job description

A role from the ESCO occupation library, or a real advert you paste in.

  3. 03

    Selection, order & wording

Matched skills lead. Bullets are ordered and capped. Optional rephrasing is checked by the no-new-facts guard.

  4. 04

    CV preview & export

One document model rendered on screen and exported as .docx or .pdf — checked against our ATS-friendly rules.

IllustrativeOne document model drives the on-screen preview and both export formats — what you see is exactly what is exported.

Target-role optimisation

The target sets the order — it never adds to the record.

When you set a target role, CareerPathIQ reads its recorded requirements and measures your record against them. What changes is selection and emphasis — not your history.

What the target actually drives

  • Skills ordering. Recorded skills that match the role's requirements move to the front of the Skills section. Order only — nothing is inserted.
  • Coverage measurement. Skills and qualification coverage is reported as a share of the role's stated requirements — with each missing item named.
  • A binary readiness verdict. Ready when no must-have skill or qualification is missing — otherwise not ready, with the open items listed. No score, no shortlist threshold.
  • A route to close gaps. Missing requirements link through to Evidence Builder and Gap Analysis — not to CV padding.

What it deliberately never does

  • Insert a skill, tool or keyword you haven't recorded.
  • Turn a missing requirement into implied experience.
  • Produce a match score that pretends to predict shortlisting.
  • Reorder your work history away from reverse-chronological truth.

Job-description analysis

The advert is the brief. Your record is the answer.

Paste a real vacancy and CareerPathIQ maps it against your target role and recorded evidence — requirement by requirement. Separate from target-role optimisation, and advisory only.

  1. 1

    Paste the advert

The job description is saved to your workspace so you can return to it.

  2. 2

    Requirements are read

Stated skills, qualifications and experience expectations are extracted from the text.

  3. 3

    Measured against you

Skills and qualification coverage is reported as percentages of what the advert asks for, alongside experience context.

  4. 4

    Levers, not edits

You get advisory next actions — evidence to add or wording to confirm. Nothing changes without you.

IllustrativeCoverage is the share of stated requirements your record supports. It is not an ATS score, and no coverage figure predicts an interview.

Assembly

Everything on the page comes from your record.

Eight real sources feed the document. Section order, emphasis and bullets-per-role come from your chosen layout profile — the same model for preview, .docx and .pdf.

How wording improvement works

Asked, checked, confirmed — then used.

  1. 1

    Your statement

Every line begins as something you wrote about your real work.

  2. 2

    Optional AI rephrase

The AI may improve clarity and phrasing — nothing else.

  3. 3

    No-new-facts guard

A deterministic check blocks any added number, date, employer or qualification.

  4. 4

    Your confirmation

Nothing is saved without your approval — and the original is never overwritten.

What CareerPathIQ will never do

  • Invent achievements, metrics or outcomes
  • Add employers, tools, qualifications or memberships you haven't recorded
  • Keyword-stuff unsupported terms to chase a score
  • Claim recruiter or ATS approval of your CV
  • Turn a requirement into experience you don't have
  • Silently replace your original wording

Export & ATS

Designed for straightforward ATS parsing.

Your CV exports as .docx or .pdf. Every export is checked rule by rule against our documented ATS-friendly standard — and the checker tells you plainly where something flags.

Standard, recognised section headings
A discrete Skills section
One consistent bullet style
No tables, columns or text boxes
Contact details in the document body
ATS-safe fonts — Calibri (.docx) and Helvetica (.pdf)
Consistent date formats
Reverse-chronological experience
No images or graphics
British English spelling

IllustrativeNo tool can guarantee how every applicant-tracking system reads a file. What CareerPathIQ guarantees is narrower and real: the document follows the documented rules above, and the conformance report shows each rule's result before you export.
